European Best Sniper Squad Competition 2016
The European Best Sniper Squad Competition 2016 is underway at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany from October 23-27. This years Best Squad Competition includes competitors from Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. Best Sniper Squad Competition is an Army Europe competition challenging militaries from across Europe to compete and enhance teamwork with Allies and partner nations. The four-day competition will include approximately 30 events such as land navigation, advanced marksmanship, medical simulations and more. Germany won the new competition, with Latvia placing second and the U.S. placing third.\r

Egypt escalates military operations in Sinai
Cairo, Feb 9 (EFE).- Egypt's armed forces on Friday launched airstrikes against alleged terrorist organizations in north and central Sinai, the opening move in a major new security operation in the restive governorate as well as the Nile Delta and the western desert, an army spokesman announced.

River Overflow Floods Colombian Town With Mud
At least four people were killed and 28 injured after the La Paila river overflowed and flooded the town of Corinto in the Cauca department of Colombia on late November 7 into November 8, according to the nation’s disaster management agency, UNGRD.
The UNGRD said they activated lines for emergency humanitarian assistance, including the Machinery Bank and measures to restore water and basic sanitary conditions. Soldiers from the Colombian Armed Forces, firefighters and police officers, both from the national and local police forces, arrived in the early morning hours of November 8 to help evacuate residents from compromised buildings and begin clearing the mud from the roads. Afghan officials say Taliban Militants targeted a compound providing logistical support to NATO forces in Kandahar, killing at least three people and wounding dozens more.

Freedom or Anarchy? 'Rebelution' leaves Libya in fear
Confrontation between Libyan rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces shows no sign of easing. Battles have been raging near the towns of Sirte and Bani Walid - two of the few remaning strongholds of the fallen regime. Forces loyal to the Colonel fired rockets from Bani Walid, where two of Gaddafi's sons are believed to be leading the armed resistence. That's despite the interim government seeking to negotiate a peaceful resolution. The deadline for Gaddafi loyalists to surrender has been extended to this Saturday. As for the Colonel himself, in his latest audio message the ousted leader claimed he was still in Libya and vowed he'd never leave his ancestors' homeland. Meanwhile life the Libyan capital still struggles after falling into rebel hands, with the celebratory mood quickly dampened by fears of anarchy setting in.

Gang raids Chechen chief's home village as month sees 40 militants killed
A dozen gunmen have reportedly been shot dead during a special operation in the Chechen Republic as Russian security forces step up their counter-terror efforts. It brings the number of alleged militants killed across the North Caucasus this month to more than 40. Authorities say an armed gang attacked a village at dawn, setting fire to several houses, with five civilians reportedly killed. The Republic's President, Ramzan Kadyrov was born there, and he arrived at the scene with a team of commandos. As well as the 12 killed militants, two officers died in the fighting. Chechnya's neighbouring republics have also seen several similar clashes in the past few days.

South Korea President Yoon declares martial law
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday (December 3) declared martial law in an unannounced late night address broadcast live on YTN television, claiming he would eradicate "shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces."
He did not cite any specific threat from the nuclear-armed North, however, instead focusing on his domestic political opponents.
Yoon said he had no choice but to resort to such a measure in order to safeguard free and constitutional order, saying opposition parties have taken hostage of the parliamentary process to throw the country into a crisis.
The surprise move sent shockwaves through the country, which had a series of authoritarian leaders early in its history but has been considered democratic since the 1980s. The Korean won was down sharply against the U.S. dollar.

The Mutasim Brigade is known for possessing a large amount of US-supplied weapons from the Syrian Train and Equip program, including M16 rifles, M249 light machine guns, M240 machine guns, Soltam K6, M224 mortars, M252 mortars, M2 Browning, and technicals. This led to reports being made that this group is supplied by the United States. The group did not receive anti-tank missiles from the US. In June the group formed an alliance with Liwa Ahfad Saladin and 6 other rebel groups in Mare after breaking an ISIL siege on the town. The new coalition claims to have 1,500 fighters under a unified military command and established cont with the rival Syrian Democratic Forces. Later that month, Mohammad Hassan Khalil was kidnapped in Mare. The Moutasem Brigade accused Major General Dara Aza, former commander of rebels in Mare, and al-Nusra Front of carrying out the abduction. In August and September the Moutasem Brigade participated in the Turkish military intervention in Syria which captured Jarabulus and al-Rai.\r
