Para poder comprar hace dos décadas o más en la Ciudad de México algunos productos que tenían la leyenda Made in USA y que hoy, aunque ya sin ese sello, prácticamente se venden en cualquier tienda de la esquina, como ropa, electrodomésticos, juguetes, zapatos, golosinas, perfumes, vinos y licores, había tres opciones: Tener mucho dinero para comprar esos productos en El Palacio de Hierro o Liverpool; romper el cochinito y viajar a los malls de Brownsville, Texas, o a Calexico, California; o bien jugarse el pellejo y el dinero serpenteando entre ladrones y policías las calles de puestos en Tepito en busca de los productos del “gabacho” que entonces solamente se podían comprar como fayuca, que se tenía que sacar a hurtadillas del mercado para no ser sorprendido por agentes aduanales.
