UN urges closer alliance in Central Asia to resolve Afghan conflict
United Nations, Jan 19 (EFE).- The UN Security Council warned on Friday of the risks posed by the Afghan conflict and urged the forging of closer links among Central Asian countries to address those threats.
Kazakhstan, the Council's current chair, introduced the initiative to discuss the situation in Afghanistan from a regional perspective.
The 15 members agreed on a statement supporting the joint efforts of Central Asian countries to promote an area of peace, cooperation and prosperity.

Asian cuisine styles can be broken down into several tiny regional styles that have rooted the peoples and cultures of those regions. Asian cuisine most often refers to East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean), Southeast Asian cuisine and South Asian cuisine. In much of Asia, the term does not include the countrys native cuisines. For example, in Hong Kong and mainland China, Asian cuisine is a general umbrella term for Japanese cuisine, Korean cuisine, Filipino cuisine, Thai cuisine, Vietnamese cuisine, Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine and Indonesian cuisine; but Chinese cuisine and Indian cuisine are excluded.The term Asian cuisine might also be used to address the eating establishments that offer wide array of Asian dishes without rigid cuisine boundaries; such as selling satay, gyoza or lumpia for appetizer, som tam, rojak or gado-gado for salad, offering chicken teriyaki, nasi goreng or beef rendang as main course, tom yam and laksa as soup, and cendol or ogura ice for dessert. In modern fusion cuisine, the term Asian cuisine might refer to the culinary exploration of cross-cultural Asian cuisine traditions. For example combining the culinary elements of Vietnam and Japanese, Thai and Malay, or Indonesian and Chinese.\r
Japanese cuisine is the food—ingredients, preparation and way of eating—of Japan. The traditional food of Japan is based on rice with miso soup and other dishes, each in its own utensil, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. The side dishes often consist of fish, pickled vegetables, and vegetables cooked in broth. Fish is common in the traditional cuisine. It is often grilled. Fish may be served raw as sashimi or in sushi. Seafood and vegetables are also deep-fried in a light batter as tempura.\r
Apart from rice, staples include noodles, such as soba and udon. Japan has many simmered dishes such as fish products in broth called oden, or beef in sukiyaki and nikujaga. Foreign food, in particular Chinese food in the form of noodles in soup called ramen and fried dumplings, gyoza, and western food such as curry and hamburger steaks are commonly found in Japan. Historically, the Japanese shunned meat, but with the modernization of Japan in the 1860s, meat-based dishes such as tonkatsu became common.\r
Chinese cuisine includes styles originating from the diverse regions of China, plus styles of Chinese people in other parts of the world. The history of Chinese cuisine in China stretches back for thousands of years and has changed from period to period and in each region according to climate, imperial fashions, and local preferences. Over time, techniques and ingredients from the cuisines of other cultures were integrated into the cuisine of the Chinese peoples due both to imperial expansion and from the trade with nearby regions in pre-modern times as well as from Europe and the New World in the modern period.\r
Styles and tastes also varied by class, region, and ethnic background. This led to an unparallelled range of ingredients, techniques, dishes and eating styles in what could be called Chinese food, leading Chinese to pride themselves on eating a wide variety of foods while remaining true to the spirit and traditions of Chinese food culture.\r

Brazilian vice president seeks to attract investment during China visit

Russian, Chinese presidents agree on initiative to end Korean conflict
The Russian and Chinese foreign ministries released a statement in which they gave details on the plan, asking that North Korea voluntarily announce a moratorium on their nuclear and missile tests, the latest of which occurred earlier on Tuesday.
They also asked that the US and South Korea abandon their military maneuvers and expressed their rejection of the use of force, defending the importance of peaceful co-existence.
Moscow and Beijing expressed their profound concern over this latest test, which they said was an unacceptable act that went against United Nations Security Council resolutions.
They also insisted that the American anti-missile shield deployed in southeast Asia represented a huge blow to strategic security interests for countries in the region, including Russia and China.
The two countries said Pyongyang's concerns had to be respected and other countries had to make an effort to renew ties and jointly create an atmosphere of peace and mutual trust.
North Korea announced on Tuesday morning that it had launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile, which they claimed could reach the US, although Russia insisted that it was, in fact, medium-range and thus posed no threat to the North American country.

Tokayev sworn in as president of Kazakhstan
Astana, Mar 21 (EFE) .- Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was sworn in Wednesday as president of Kazakhstan, following the resignation the previous day of Nursultan Nazarbayev, who ruled this Central Asian country for almost 30 years.

Kazakhstan to be the voice of Central Asia at UN Security Council
New York, United Nations, Sep 22 (EFE).- Kazakhstan pledged on Thursday to push the issues that particularly affect Central Asia in the Security Council of the United Nations, with the grand idea to make the region a zone of peace, cooperation and security.
Kazakhstan was elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council on June 28 with a term of two years, starting in January. It will be the first time that a country from Central Asia occupies a seat in the Council.
"The two-year term on the Security Council is a responsibility that we take with the utmost seriousness and pride", Kazakhstan's foreign minister Erlan Idrissov, said Thursday during the UN General Assembly.

The best navy in Asia has a total of 114 warships and 45,800 volunteer personnel. It has a large fleet of fast, powerful destroyers, thoroughly modern diesel-electric attack submarines, and amphibious ships that can haul tanks and other ground forces. It can hunt submarines, square off against invasion fleets, and shoot down enemy ballistic missiles. Despite all of that firepower, this is not in f a navy at all, but an armed cohort of civil servants.\r

Technically, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is a “self-defense force” designed to overcome the countrys constitutional limits on armed forces. It is, ship for ship, the best navy in Asia.\r

The main component of the MSDF are its fleet of forty-six destroyers and frigates—more than that those fielded by the United Kingdom and France combined. Organized into escort flotillas, Japans tin-can navy is designed to defend the country from invasion, help retake Japanese territory and keep the sea-lanes open.\r

Japan banks and investors buy US dollar, US treasury bills, US stocks, and other US assets. A Japanese investor may be pursuing a Yen carry trade simply to take advantage of higher interest rates outside of Japan. The Japanese central bank may be supporting the dollar as a direct extension of Japanese monetary policy to keep Japanese products competitive in international markets. Both actions serve to keep the dollar stronger than it would otherwise be and to keep the Yen priced lower than it would otherwise be.

Polish president visits Astana to expand cooperation with Kazakhstan
Astana, Sep 6 (EFE).- Polish President Andrzej Duda arrived on Wednesday in Astana, where he met with his Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to discuss prospects for cooperation with the Central Asian country.

Kazakhstan reiterates anti-terrorism commitment with new code of conduct
United Nations, Sep 28 (EFE) .- Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov addressed the 73rd UN General Assembly in Friday to stress Kazakhstan’s commitment to fight international terrorism and to present a new code of conduct signed by more than 70 countries and "open to signing by other states."
On the fourth day of the United Nations Assembly, Abdrakhmanov presented a new "Code of Conduct to Achieve a World Free of Terrorism" that which "invites all countries to coordinate closely in the fight against this evil", a document to which 70 states have already joined, he explained.
"We invite all of you to show your good will in the fight against this disastrous phenomenon," Abdrakhmanov told representatives of nearly 200 countries.
Kazakhstan has ratified 16 of the 19 UN instruments to combat terrorism, with measures taken for early accession to the remaining three treaties.
"A stronger global leadership in the fight against terrorism remains crucial, we must do more to address the roots of radicalization using the best practices and relevant instruments of the UN," said Abdrakhmanov.
The Kazakh minister also reported that his country is actively working "within the framework of the Joint Action Plan to Implement the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (GCTS) in Central Asia."
Abdrakhmanov recalled that, in his speech before the General Assembly in 2015, the president of his country already expressed his desire to undertake several initiatives against terrorism.
He also said that this Assembly comes when "millions of people live under the shadow of frightful wars, as in Syria, Yemen and many other corners of the globe."
"Kazakhstan believes that war can never be a lasting solution to any problem, based on this conviction, we share the belief that the solution to the current crisis in Syria is Syria-led and inclusive politics," said the Kazakh foreign minister. . EFE

EU, Kazakhstan to agree on roadmap for relations in 2017
Brussels, Oct 4 (EFE).- The European Union and Kazakhstan on Tuesday touted in Brussels the good path that bilateral relations are on and vowed to come up with a roadmap for exchanges between the 28-nation bloc and the Central Asian country, focusing mainly on economic cooperation and the fight against terrorism.
"In the first half of next year, we could finish the plan that will be our roadmap," Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov said in a press conference.
