How an Electric Steering Rack Works

In this video two steering racks are taken apart to demonstrate how they work inside.\r

The steering rack on a car is responsible for turning the rotational motion of the steering wheel into a horizontal translation motion that push the wheels in and out via the tie rods. This results in the front wheels turning.\r
\r
Rack and pinion steering consists of a housing, within which there is a tube, called the rack, with teeth. The teeth engage the input shaft thats connected to the steering wheel, and is called the pinion gear.\r
\r
In this video 2016 Toyota Camry and 2016 Chevrolet Cruze steering racks are cut open to show their internal workings. The Toyota rack is a basic rack and pinon setup and is purely a mechanical mechanism, since its electric power assist comes from a motor mounted on the steering shaft above. \r
\r
The Chevy steering rack has a servo motor and a computer that aids with the assist, and it comes as an assembly mounted to the rack itself. The steering angle input sensor sends a signal to the computer, sitting behind the motor. The motor is then turned on to allow an electric assist to aid in steering the wheels. It is connected to the rack via a recirculating ball type mechanism. The steering input shaft meanwhile, connects to the rack on the drivers side via a traditional spiral gear.

Heres a funny one from the Tokyo Motor Show. Daihatsus squarish concept EV van, dubbed the FC ShowCase, is basically a spacious four-seater packing plenty of goodies: a giant wing door, some blue lights on the wheels, an LED panel on the left skirt, side-view cameras instead of mirrors, a funky touch panel steering wheel, a small heads-up display and a 60-inch TV. And no, this isnt a mod from Pimp My Ride. According to one of the designers, the idea here is that the FC ShowCase s as a mobile theater, which can keep travellers entertained while camping or fishing. With the seats folded down (except for the drivers seat, of course) on top of the 35kW solid polymer fuel cell stack, this vehicle also makes a great delivery van apparently, but dont expect FedEx to turn up at your door with Daihatsus dream ride any time soon. Peugeot 308, equipado con nuevas ayudas a la conducción

Para una conducción más segura, el Nuevo Peugeot 308 dispone de nuevos equipamientos de ayuda a la conducción.

El Driver Assistance Pack, disponible en opción, integra tres dispositivos que utilizan un radar situado en la parte delantera del coche:

• Regulador de velocidad activo: Se trata de un limitador/regulador de velocidad con funciones ampliadas. Propone, una función adicional de regulación de la velocidad y de la distancia con el vehículo precedente. El sistema tiene en cuenta las órdenes de velocidad y distancia a respetar entre los vehículos (expresado en segundos) elegidas por el conductor. Cuando el radar detecta un vehículo que circula delante, mantiene una distancia constante con él de manera automática gracias a la acción del freno motor y del acelerador. Cuando el carril queda libre (cuando el vehículo cambia de carril o lo hace el que circulaba delante), el regulador vuelve a las órdenes dadas inicialmente. Si la deceleración del freno motor no basta para mantener la distancia definida, el regulador alerta al conductor y devuelve el control de la velocidad al conductor. Esta función puede accionarse a partir de 40 km/h y gestiona una diferencia de velocidad entre vehículos de como máximo 30 km/h.
• Alerta de riesgo de colisión: Cuando el radar detecta que el vehículo que circula delante está demasiado cerca, genera una alerta visual y sonora que advierte al conductor para que frene evitando así el riesgo de colisión.
• Frenada automática de emergencia: En caso de detección de una colisión inminente con el vehículo precedente, el sistema aplica una frenada automática para advertir al conductor distraído, evitar el impacto o reducir las consecuencias del mismo. Este equipamiento funciona a partir de 20 km/h.

Un sistema de control del ángulo muerto también está disponible en los niveles de acabado superiores. Un diodo luminoso integrado en los retrovisores exteriores avisa al conductor de la presencia de cualquier otro vehículo, incluidas las motocicletas, en el ángulo muerto del carril adyacente.

Para el confort y la seguridad al volante, el Nuevo Peugeot 308 monta, de serie o en opción, un freno de estacionamiento eléctrico de nueva generación accionado por pinzas de freno motorizadas. Una cámara de marcha atrás que utiliza la gran pantalla central a color y el acceso y puesta en marcha manos libres también están disponibles.

Finalmente, el sistema Park Assist (ayuda activa al estacionamiento) estará disponible en primavera de 2014 con la nueva función de estacionamiento en batería.

La compañía Ford ha presentado un coche completamente eléctrico inspirado en su modelo Mustang durante el salón del automóvil SEMA 2019 que se celebra en Las Vegas (EE.UU.) del 5 al 8 de noviembre, según recoge rt y comparte Vuelta Rápida GT para Periodista Digital.


Este Mustang Lithium posee un motor eléctrico de doble núcleo con más de 900 caballos de fuerza y, de manera poco habitual para un auto de este tipo, transmisión manual de seis cambios, informa SlashGear.

El cupé funciona gracias a una batería de la empresa Webasto que tiene 800 voltios y un torque superior a 1.000 libras por pies que le permite una "impactante aceleración de un cuarto de milla".

Ese vehículo tiene un aspecto bastante parecido al Mustang GT, salvo por su falda lateral, su difusor trasero de fibra de carbono y su capó con vidrios transparentes de policarbonato.

Asimismo, esta versión está algo más cerca del suelo y cuenta con ruedas que poseen un ancho escalonado de 20 pulgadas vestidas en neumáticos Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, reporta Car and Driver.

En su interior cuenta con detalles azul eléctrico y un tablero con pantalla táctil de 10,4 pulgadas cuya interfaz permite cambiar entre cuatro modos de conducir gracias a la alteración del torque.

De momento resulta imposible comprar este coche, ya que Ford ha dado a entender que se trata de un prototipo que ha diseñado especialmente para esta edición de SEMA con vistas a promocionar sus esfuerzos en el ámbito de los vehículos electricos antes de presentar su nuevo todoterreno —también inspirado en el Mustang— el próximo 17 de noviembre.

78 VW Beetle Bug Convertible Restoration, lastchanceautorestore.com

Winnie is a 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible that appears to be a limited Special Edition.\r
\r
Our client ordered a Birth Certificate from Germany to confirm not only if this is a true numbers matching Super Beetle, but also verify if it is in f one of the very rare Canadian special editions!\r
\r
Winnie came to our spa for a total Ground Up / Pan Off restoration. There was a special triple white (meaning white exterior paint, white interior and a white convertible top) edition that was built in limited supply for the Canadian market place.\r
\r
This car has the same special different looking stamped steel wheels, rear window defroster, upgraded gas heater, and some other features we noticed.\r
\r
This Super Beetle Convertible has been sitting in a barn for about 20 years. \r
\r
The motor is seized (it will not roll over). We noted the spark plugs were missing (it looked like they have been removed for many years) based on the amount of rust around the cylinder heads. We poured our magic anti seize liquid into each cylinder every day for 2 weeks hoping to free the motor up..it did not work.\r
\r
We will probably be replacing the motor with a more reliable carbureted version (after we consult with our client).\r
\r
Winnies transformation began with us starting the dis assembly. \r
\r
The front and rear bumper brackets along with front and rear fenders were removed first. The hood and engine lid next. All of the under front hood components were removed, the gas heater, spare tire, windshield washer lines and jug and gas tank. \r
\r
We removed the engine from the chassis after unbolting it from the transmission and dropped it out through the bottom and out of the way after unhooking the heater controls, fuel line and starter.\r
\r
The front seats were removed (with their very rusty seat frames), and the rear seat cushion and back were removed next.\r
\r
Both doors were taken apart (door panels, window regulators, glass, handles and trim). The complete interior was also removed (old nasty carpet, underlay and all trim along with the complete dash board assembly.\r
\r
The smell of Winnies interior was terrible from the barn friends that lived and visited her in the barn she was stored in for many years.\r
\r
All of the bolts that held the body to the chassis were removed next. \r
\r
The body was lifted off of the chassis/pan assembly after the front struts and steering was unbolted and set on one of our beetle body dollies. The chassis section will need to have new floor pans for both the driver and passenger sides (very common on Beetles).\r
\r
The front steering and suspension components were removed from the front frame head of the chassis. We installed one of our front wheeled dollies to move the chassis easily around the shop.\r
\r
The complete convertible top was unhooked and removed from the body. The remainder of interior trim was carefully removed and labelled and put into bins.\r
\r
We unbolted both doors from the body and began to prepare the body for media blasting. With the body degreased and wiped down, the complete body was media blasted to bare metal. Both door frames were media blasted and the exterior of both doors were sanded to bare metal. \r
\r
There were some rusty sections that required new steel patches. \r
\r
The rusted out areas were cut out and new steel patches were made and welded into place. All of the welds were ground smooth. \r
\r
The rusted out rear apron panel (at the rear engine bay opening) was removed from the body after all of the fory spot welds were drilled out. (We will be welding in a new replacement rear apron panel later). \r
\r
With all of the old fory paint sanded and removed from all areas of the body, it was washed and wiped down with a special degreaser and cleaning solution before the complete body received two coats of a special two part black epoxy metal sealer (to protect the complete car from future rust).\r

The complete body will receive two coats of grey high build primer next. \r
\r
