  • Classic Game Room HD - SEGA 32X review part 1

    Part 1 of 2. Classic Game Room HD reviews the SEGA 32X add-on for the Sega Genesis 16-bit video game console. Also available for the Sega Mega Drive, the 32X boosts the POWER of the Genesis.... or something like that. It plays 32X games which are typically larger, smoother and even better looking than awesome Sega Genesis video games. The 32X suffered from many problems though, not the least of which was its requirement to use two power supplies. The 32X works with the model 1 and model 2 Sega Genesis but requires a special 32X cable to work properly. The 32X is powered by the common Sega MK-3102 power supply and covers the player's room with wires and nonsense. Sega's biggest mistake? Even though the 32X was a commercial disaster and is regarded as a joke there are some amazing games available for the Sega 32X like Doom, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing Deluxe, Afterburner and Metal Head. The library of games is smaller than what you'll find for the Genesis but there are some real gems in there like Cosmic Carnage. If you can find the cables to make it work, pick up a 32X for a song these days and you'll be surprised at how good it actually is, even if it is a complete clusterf---.

    Golf Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples is a golf video game for the Sega 32X. The game features Fred Couples on the cover and is sponsored by Golf Magazine. It was released in 1994 in the North America, Japan, and Europe regions.

    The game uses 12 male and 12 female players, and is set at 27 golfcourses around the USA.

    In Japan, Famitsu gave the game a score of 23 out of 40. In North America, GamePro recommended the game "for thinking golfers who love to experiment", praising the wide range of options and the detailed course graphics, though they criticized the difficult shooting controls and the unclear overhead maps.

  • TOP X MD 32X | T-MEK (ATARI GAMES CORPORATION, TIME WARNER INTERACTIVE, BITS CORP, 1995)

    T-MEK is a two-player, sit-down, virtual reality fighting arcade game published by Time Warner Interactive in 1994. Each player can choose their MEK (a hovering tank with special weapons and abilities). One player can play against 6 AI players and the occasional Boss, or two players can play against each other and 4 AI players. There is a special tournament mode where two players can go one on one. Up to three T-MEK cabinets can be linked for six-player competitions. T-MEK was later ported to DOS and the Sega 32X; rather than linking multiple systems together, the home versions featured split-screen multiplayer for two players.

    T-MEK featured surround sound, which Time Warner Interactive advertised as "CAGE Audio". Each player's station had four speakers; two in front and two behind the player, and a subwoofer mounted directly below the seat. T-MEK has no background music soundtrack, which was a departure for "deluxe" arcade games in the coming-of-age era of digitally sampled audio, and instead relied upon the sound to help aid the player in finding enemies.
