http://bit.ly/4JRWtb anxiety depression, -when you start to experience anxious thoughts, it is very important not to force the thoughts away. Let the thoughts in. The more comfortable you can become with them, the better. These thoughts will never go away fully but what you can learn is to change your reaction to them. By changing your reaction to the anxious thoughts you become free of them. Once you establish a new way of reacting to the thoughts it does not matter if you have them or not. Your reaction is what defines the whole experience (and that applies to almost everything). Everybody experiences fleeting thoughts that many would consider scary or crazy. The difference between most people and somebody who gets caught up in them, is that the average person sees them for exactly what they are, fleeting anxious thoughts, and casually ignores them. The anxious person is at a disadvantage as they already have a certain level of anxiety in their system. The thoughts easily spark feelings of further anxiety which builds into a cycle of fear. You break the cycle by changing how you react to the fearful thought. Here is an example of how to approach this: You are enjoying the way your day is going but then all of sudden a fearful thought comes to mind. Before you would react with anxiety to the idea and then try to force that thought out of your mind. This time, however, say: “That’s a fear of X. I could worry and even obsess over that but this time I’m going to do something different. I’m not going to react to it. I’m also not going to try and stop it either. I’m just going to label the thought and not react.” Then the thought comes again with more intensity and possibly with new ’scary’ angles you never considered. When this happens you do exactly the same. As if you were observing a cloud passing overhead, you simply -Observe it, -Label it (fear of whatever), then -Watch it as it passes by with no judgment. then -Move your attention on to what you were doing. El estudio, publicado en la revista "Clinical Cancer Research", pretende vencer la elevada resistencia que los tumores de colon y recto presentan a un tipo de tratamiento con inhibidores de PI3K o AKT, que provocan que el cáncer siga desarrollándose.

El ejercicio puede ser tan eficaz como un segundo "medicamento" para casi la mitad de los pacientes con depresión, cuya condición no haya sido curada por un medicamento antidepresivo, según un estudio realizado por el Southwestern Medical Center de la Universidad de Texas (Estados Unidos), cuyos resultados se han publicado en la revista 'Journal of Clinical Psychiatry'. La investigación muestra que tanto niveles moderados como intensos de ejercicio diario pueden funcionar como la administración de un segundo fármaco antidepresivo que se utiliza a menudo cuando los medicamentos iniciales no consiguen la remisión de la enfermedad. El tipo de ejercicio que se necesita, sin embargo, depende de las características de los pacientes, incluido su género. Estos hallazgos son el resultado de un estudio de cuatro años realizado por el departamento de Psiquiatría de la Universidad de Texas en colaboración con el Instituto Cooper de Dallas (Estados Unidos).

Descubren 'punto débil' de las células tumorales causantes de recaídas del cáncer

Barcelona 27 jun (EFE).- Investigadores del Instituto de Oncología del Vall d'Hebron han descubierto cómo eliminar las células tumorales latentes causantes de las recaídas de enfermos de cáncer aparentemente curados.
Este hallazgo abre la posibilidad de desarrollar fármacos para atacar esas células resistentes a los medicamentos.
Un tumor está formado por células alteradas que crecen y se multiplican de forma incontrolada.
Según el investigador que ha liderado el trabajo, Héctor Palmer, existen mecanismos moleculares capaces de imponerse a ese crecimiento originado por la el factor epigenético TET2.
Identificar el TET 2 ha supuesto encontrar el punto de débil de estas células para matarlas, según Palmer, lo que abre la vía de encontrar un fármaco y evitar la metástasis.
La investigación, publicada por The Journal of Clinical Investigation, ha demostrado que las células tumorales durmientes están en diferentes tipos de cáncer como los de colon, mama, pulmón, glioblastoma y melanoma, entre otros.

Los roedores y las personas obesas muestran un patrón de lesiones en el hipotálamo, una estructura cerebral relacionada con el apetito. 2 estudios publicados esta semana en The Journal of Clinical Investigation constatan la presencia de 'cicatrices' en algunos núcleos de esta región y una disminución del recambio neuronal. La obesidad provoca cambios en el organismo que van más allá del depósito excesivo de grasa. Las personas que la padecen, así como los animales, sufren alteraciones en los sistemas de mantenimiento del balance energético y experimentan inflamación en los tejidos -cosa que les predispone a varias enfermedades-. Ambos fenómenos podrían estar relacionados aunque falta saber cómo. Un grupo de investigadores de la Universidad de Washington ha analizado la aparición de inflamación en el hipotálamo de roedores con obesidad inducida por la dieta y ha observado que los signos de inflamación aparecen durante las primeras 24 horas del inicio de la alimentación rica en grasas.

El control del agua será vital “si las cosas se tuercen” con las variantes de covid

Valencia, 7 may (EFE).- La medición de los niveles de SARS-CoV-2 en aguas residuales será una técnica “vital” para controlar la situación “si las cosas vuelven a torcerse” en la evolución de la pandemia y puede servir como un sistema de alerta temprana tanto para localizar casos aislados o brotes como para detectar nuevas variantes. Así lo han concluido los redactores del estudio científico ‘Detección temprana de casos o brotes de infección por SARS-CoV-2 en residencias de mayores mediante seguimiento selectivo de aguas residuales’, publicado en la revista Clinical Microbiology and Infection, y que ha confirmado la eficacia de la técnica de muestreo y análisis de la presencia de covid en aguas residuales que ha puesto en marcha Global Omnium en colaboración con el CSIC y la Universitat de València. El sistema permite esa detección temprana puesto que, si bien pasan una serie de días desde que una persona se infecta hasta que presenta algún síntoma que recomiende su aislamiento, durante ese lapso de tiempo la presencia del virus es detectable en las aguas residuales que genera esa persona, aunque no acabe desarrollando síntomas.

La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) recomienda seguir estos 5 hábitos alimentarios a la hora de combatir el coronavirus.
1. Consume alimentos integrales
y mantén una dieta diversa.
Esta es la mejor manera de asegurarse de consumir suficientes vitaminas y minerales para mantener un sistema inmunológico saludable.
2. Siempre incluye frutas y verduras en tu plato.
La Universidad de Cincinnati Health dice que "cuanto más colorido sea su plato con una variedad de opciones" es mejor.
3. Come nueces como bocadillo.
Los frutos secos son ricos en vitamina E, un antioxidante conocido por su capacidad para estimular el sistema inmunológico.
4. Agrega granos integrales y legumbres.

La adolescencia es un periodo en el que se busca experimentar con todo tipo de estimulantes o sustancias, entre ellas el alcohol. Pero también es un momento en el que el organismo está en pleno desarrollo, de modo que los efectos de la exploración pueden ser muy graves y tener consecuencias a largo plazo.

La última prueba de ello viene firmada por un equipo de investigación de la Universidad de Memphis, en EEUU. En un estudio en ratas, los científicos han observado que beber grandes cantidades de etanol de forma intermitente —el modo de consumo típico del famoso botellón —produce alteraciones en diversas funciones biológicas que tienen implicaciones en la edad adulta y provoca tolerancia.
Los resultados de un estudio de la Universidad de Sussex ,en el Reino Unido, son una llamada de atención para los alcohólicos que han hecho varios intentos de desintoxicación y también para sus médicos. El trabajo publicado en 'Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research' demuestra que haber seguido múltiples programas de deshabituación provoca alteraciones en una importante región del cerebro involucrada en la consecución de objetivos y en aquellas tareas intelectuales que requieren atención.
Además, los autores subrayan que este efecto no sólo se observa en los alcohólicos más graves, sino también en aquellos que tienen una adicción leve o moderada. «Estos individuos pueden ser más difíciles de tratar y necesitarán ayuda extra para prevenir las recaídas», asegura Theodora Duka, autora principal.
