Davos (Switzerland), Jan 21 (EFE).- China's aim in developing the modern silk road -- part of its "One Belt One Road" initiative -- is to improve access to the European market, but is also an opportunity for Eurasian countries such as Kazakhstan.
Not only can Kazakstan benefit from transporting goods between the two regions, but other advantages will appear as China and develops industry along the Kazakh border, according to Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the chairman of Dubai-based global sea terminal operator DP World.

EU, Kazakhstan to agree on roadmap for relations in 2017
Brussels, Oct 4 (EFE).- The European Union and Kazakhstan on Tuesday touted in Brussels the good path that bilateral relations are on and vowed to come up with a roadmap for exchanges between the 28-nation bloc and the Central Asian country, focusing mainly on economic cooperation and the fight against terrorism.
"In the first half of next year, we could finish the plan that will be our roadmap," Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov said in a press conference.

Brussels, Feb 26 (EFE).- Officials of the European Union and Kazakhstan conferred here Monday on new ways to cooperate in both the economic and political spheres.
The 16th meeting of the EU-Kazakhstan Cooperation Council featured an exchange of ideas on removing obstacle to trade, facilitating foreign investment in the Central Asian country and stimulating the Kazakh economy, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said on behalf of the EU at the conclusion of the session.

EST - European Solar Telescope
e European Solar Telescope (EST) is the future project for European ground-based solar astronomy. It is the main project for EAST (European Association for Solar Telescopes), an association with 15 member institutions from 15 European countries.
The EST's main mission is to observe the Sun. Understanding it is crucial for many reasons:
1. There is a fundamental link between the earth and the Sun. The Sun is of primary importance because it maintains life on earth. Any change in conditions in the Sun could have dramatic consequences for us. Large amounts of energy can be transferred into the plasma, from where it is stored in the magnetic fields, in very small periods, between seconds and minutes. These transfers can accelerate the plasma to speeds of within a fraction of the speed of light and, if this accelerated plasma (in the form of an ejection of coronal mass) reaches the earth's magnetopause, it can give rise to fascinating events (auroras) and phenomena that are potentially dangerous for our environment (damage to satellites, overloading energy lines, excessive radiation exposure for space crews or the International Space Station etc). This means that it is essential for us to study all of these processes so that we can predict them.
2. The Sun is a fundamental physics laboratory (the interaction between the plasma and the magnetic field can only be studied in the Sun's extreme physical conditions).
3. The Sun is a fundamental model for understanding the rest of the Universe (all of the stars are suns). This lamb dish is a mix of both Arabic and Mediterranean cuisine. Cumin and Tomatoes are widely used in both foods. Lets just call this a Eastern Mediterranean dish.\r

Turkish cuisine (Turkish: Türk mutfağı) is largely the heritage of Ottoman cuisine, which can be described as a fusion and refinement of Central Asian, Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines. Turkish cuisine has in turn influenced those and other neighbouring cuisines, including those of Western Europe. The Ottomans fused various culinary traditions of their realm with influences from Middle Eastern cuisines, along with traditional Turkic elements from Central Asia (such as yogurt), creating a vast array of specialities—many with strong regional associations.\r
Turkish cuisine varies across the country. The cooking of Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, and rest of the Aegean region inherits many elements of Ottoman court cuisine, with a lighter use of spices, a preference for rice over bulgur, and a wider use of seafoods. The cuisine of the Black Sea Region uses fish extensively, especially the Black Sea anchovy (hamsi), has been influenced by Balkan and Slavic cuisine, and includes maize dishes. The cuisine of the southeast—Urfa, Gaziantep and Adana—is famous for its kebabs, mezes and dough-based desserts such as baklava, kadayıf and künefe (kanafeh).\r

Lebanese cuisine includes an abundance of starches, whole grain, fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood; animal fats are consumed sparingly. Poultry is eaten more often than red meat. When red meat is eaten it is usually lamb on the coast, and goat meat in the mountain regions. It also includes copious amounts of garlic and olive oil, often seasoned by lemon juice.; olive oil, herbs, garlic and lemon are typical flavours found in the Lebanese diet.\r
Most often foods are either grilled, baked or sautéed in olive oil; butter or cream is rarely used other than in a few desserts. Vegetables are often eaten raw or pickled as well as cooked. Herbs and spices are used and the freshness of ingredients is important. Like most Mediterranean countries, much of what the Lebanese eat is dictated by the seasons.\r

Sawmills seem to have existed in the medieval period, as one was sketched by Villard de Honnecourt in c.1250.[2] On the other hand people think they were introduced to Madeira following its discovery in c.1420 and spread widely in Europe in the 16th century.[3]\r

The Dutchman Cornelis Corneliszoon (1550-1607) invented his type of sawmill by applying a pitman arm onto a wind mill, which converted a turning motion into an up-an-down motion. Corneliszoon patented the sawmill on December 15, 1593 and the pitman on December 6, 1597. He built the first sawmill there in 1594.\r

Before to the invention of the sawmill, boards were sawn by two men with a whipsaw, using saddleblocks to hold the log, and a pit for the pitman who worked below. Sawing was slow, and required strong and enduring men. The topsawer had to be the stronger of the two because the saw was pulled in turn by each man, and the lower had the advantage of gravity. The topsawyer also had to guide the saw so that the board was of even thickness. This was often done by following a chalkline.\r
\r
Early sawmills simply adapted the whipsaw to mechanical power, generally driven by a water wheel to speed up the process. The circular motion of the wheel was changed to back-and-forth motion of the saw blade by a Connecting rod known as a pitman (thus introducing a term used in many mechanical applications). A pitman is similar to a crankshaft, but in reverse; a crankshaft converts back-and-forth motion to circular motion.\r

Generally, only the saw was powered, and the logs had to be loaded and moved by hand. An early improvement was the development of a movable carriage, also water powered, to steadily move the log through the saw blade.\r
\r
A small mill such as this would be the center of many rural communities in wood-exporting regions such as the Baltic countries and Canada. The output of such mills would be quite low, perhaps only 500 boards per day.
