SCRIPT

Men and women braved the rain and the strength of dozens of wild horses weighing several hundred kilograms Saturday in the Spanish town of Sabucedo for the "Rapa das Bestas," a controversial festival which involves wrestling wild horses and forcibly cutting their manes and tails while the animals try to resist.

The horses used in the festival live in a semi-feral state in the nearby mountains. Wrestling the animals, which can weigh several hundred kilograms, is seen as a test of strength and will. "Rapa das Bestas" means "Cropping the Beasts."

Horse wrestling is considered animal abuse by a number of organisations, such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). In the U.S. state of Oklahoma, horse wrestling is legally classified as animal cruelty, punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 (€3,680) and seven years in prison.

YORKSHIRE TERRIER - TODO LO QUE DEBES SABER

El terrier más popular del mundo, cómo no, es el Yorkshire Terrier. Fue creado a principios del siglo XIX por los obreros de la zona de West Riding, en Yorkshire, que desarrollaron la raza para cazar a las terribles ratas y ratones que infestaban las fábricas de ropa y los pozos de las minas. Estos perros de caza también eran capaces de introducirse en las madrigueras de los tejones y de los zorros.

En realidad esta raza no es muy antigua, aunque los orígenes del Yorkshire Terrier no están claros del todo.
Sin embargo, parece probable que los escoceses que buscaban trabajo en las fábricas de lana de Yorkshire trajeran consigo varios tipos de terrier, incluyendo el Skye Terrier , el Dandie Dinmont, el Manchester Terrier , el Maltés y el hoy extinto Clydesdale (Paisley Terrier). Todos estos perros fueron cruzados con otros perros locales, tales como el Leeds Terrier de pelo largo.
Al principio, el Yorkshire Terrier era un animal mucho más grande que el que conocemos hoy en día, pero por la cría
selectiva de los individuos más pequeños, la raza fue miniaturizada gradualmente a lo largo de los años.

Sanear o recortar un casco (o vaso) es algo imprescindible que hay que hacer antes de herrar a un caballo. De hecho, aunque muchas personas no lo saben, es la razón por la que se suele cambiar la mayoría de las herraduras.

Las herraduras pueden cambiarse porque se gastan, pero normalmente se cambian porque el casco o vaso del caballo crece de forma tal que hace que el caballo empiece a pisar mal. Es cuando hay que sacar la herradura (gastada o no) limpiar, recortar o "nivelar" el casco (sanearlo) y volver a poner una herradura, una nueva, porque normalmente la misma ya no sirve.
