Spain's debt hits new record high

Madrid, Dec 13 (EFE).- Spain's public debt climbed to 954.9 billion euros ($1.3 trillion) in the third quarter, equivalent to a new record high of 93.4 percent of gross domestic product, the central bank said. Public debt rose 16.73 percent compared to the third quarter of last year, according to Bank of Spain figures released Friday.

EU, Kazakhstan to agree on roadmap for relations in 2017

Brussels, Oct 4 (EFE).- The European Union and Kazakhstan on Tuesday touted in Brussels the good path that bilateral relations are on and vowed to come up with a roadmap for exchanges between the 28-nation bloc and the Central Asian country, focusing mainly on economic cooperation and the fight against terrorism.

"In the first half of next year, we could finish the plan that will be our roadmap," Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov said in a press conference.

Upbeat US Fed keeps interest rates on hold

The US Federal Reserve will keep the federal interest rate at a historic low of zero to 0.25 percent to boost the economic recovery.

The central bank says it will maintain the target range for the federal funds rate and continues to anticipate that economic conditions will likely warrant exceptionally low levels for an extended period. Although the US economy continues to strengthen and the labor market is beginning to improve, the Fed says there are reasons to be cautious.

High unemployment, sluggish income gains and tight credit are still dampening consumer spending. Commercial real estate remains fragile. And housing activity is still at depressed levels.

El BCE se muestra satisfecho tras comenzar a comprar deuda pública

Fráncfort (Alemania), 9 mar (EFE).- El Banco Central Europeo (BCE) se mostró hoy satisfecho tras comenzar a comprar grandes cantidades de deuda pública de la zona del euro para impulsar el crecimiento y la inflación de la región, y no tiene plan B porque está convencido de que el programa va a funcionar.

La cantidad mensual de compra de deuda pública y privada será de 60.000 millones de euros hasta finales de septiembre de 2016 pero el BCE puede prolongar el programa si la inflación no se acerca al 2 %.

Hasta ahora el BCE ha comprado deuda privada, bonos garantizados (cédulas) y bonos de titulización por valor mensual de 13.000 millones de euros.

Por lo que, si mantiene este ritmo, el volumen del programa de compras del sector público será de unos 47.000 millones de euros, según fuentes del BCE.

A su vez, del total de compras de deuda del sector público, el 88% serán bonos soberanos y de agencias y el 12 % restante de instituciones de la Unión Europea (UE).

El Banco de España y el Banco de Francia serán los encargados de realizar las compras de los bonos de la UE.

Serán los bancos centrales nacionales los que lleven a cabo las compras descentralizadas pero coordinadas por el BCE y, en caso de que se produzcan pérdidas, el 80 % las asumirá la entidad central nacional y el 20 % restante el BCE.

Cada banco central nacional comprará deuda soberana sólo de su propio país en la misma proporción a su participación en el capital del Banco Central Europeo.

La cuota de capital del Bundesbank en el BCE es del 25,7 %; el Banco de Francia del 20,3 %; la Banca d'Italia del 17,6 %; el Banco de España del 12,6 % y el Nederlandsche Bank de Holanda del 5,7 %.

Los otros países de la zona del euro aportan el 18 % restante al capital del Banco Central Europeo, que coordina las compras y no ve problemas de oferta.

Spanish police arrest 3 suspected of convincing man to join terror group in Syria

Madrid, May 7 (EFE).- Spanish police have arrested three Moroccan men on the Canary island of Tenerife suspected of having captured and sent a man to Syria to join the ranks of the Nusra Front terror organization.
According to Spain's interior ministry, the trio captured a 35-year-old Moroccan man at an internet cafe and mosque they frequented.
The group allegedly introduced the man to Salafi extremism, persuaded him to travel to Syria in 2013, and, upon his return to Tenerife in a small boat in 2015 after having lost his left hand, helped him to get to Central Europe using forged documents, until he was arrested in Budapest.
Spain's authorities carried out the operation in collaboration with Europol.

Even though these exchange can have a value for agriculture, they can also be dangerous. Especially through increasing participation of finanical speculators like banks and funds, food prices more and more become a financial asset and an object of profit maximization. What needs to be done

To prevent financial speculators from generating profits at the cost of the poot, we need strong regulation of commodity derivatives markets. This includes:
• Trade on transparent exchanges or clearing houses
• High margin requirements for Over-the-counter trade
• Reporting and public reports
• Price oversight and price limits
• Prevention of excessive speculation through position limits
• Trading prohibition for institutional funds, mutual funds and for proprietary trading
• Control of the speculation by multinational commodity companies
• Transaction tax on commodity derivatives trading

The political debate

In the G20, French president Sarkozy has made food speculation a top priority. The G20 will decide on measure till the Cannes summit in November 2011. In the EU, the revision of the markets in financial instruments directive (MiFID) does play a major role. In Juli 2011, WEED and 13 other organisations have written a letter to internal market commissioner Barnier, calling for measures against food speculation within the MiFID revision. With other young gifted musicians from Russia discovered by the foundation, Matsuev went on tour in Europe and the United States.
In 1991, Matsuev moved with his parents to Moscow to continue his musical education. He studied at the Central Musical School at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1994, he took part at his first international piano competition in Johannesburg, South Africa where he was awarded the Grand Prix. Entra en circulación un primer billete de plástico de cinco libras esterlinas en Inglaterra y Gales. Posteriormente, también aparecerá en Escocia e Irlanda del Norte, porque en estos territorios no es el Banco de Inglaterra quien hace la emisión. El objetivo del banco central, en todo caso, es que con un billete de plástico sea más difícil su deterioro al llevarse constantemente en el bolsillo.
