The dry Savannah - Bioparc Valencia

The African savannah: the greatest concentrations of large herbivores in the world are found on the African savannah. The more than one hectare savannah exhibit in Bioparc Valencia includes an acacia forest and grasslands populated with animals such as zebras, impalas, blesbok, marabous, crowned cranes and giraffes.
The dry Savannah recreates a type of savannah that can be enters the barren and dependent zones of seasonal rains of the North of Kenya and Somalia, as we can find in the National Park Samburu, or the predesert ones like those of the Kalahari, in the
African South cone. A group of Southern white rhinos reside in a dry river bed inspired by landscapes of Samburu.

Arroyo Humaina

También localizado en el Parque Natural Montes de Málaga, el Humaina es un arroyo que permanece seco la mayor parte del año a excepción de periodos de intensas lluvias. Es un tributario del más largo y ancho río Guadalmedina que pasa por Málaga, aunque para estándares del norte, más bien sería considerado otro arroyo.
Esta ruta no es para nada un paseo de recreo a pesar de su corta distancia. Empieza bajando por un cortafuegos y, una vez en el arroyo, la densa vegetación complica mucho el avance, así que hay que buscar constantemente cruzar el arroyo buscando siempre la parte más despejada. Luego se deja el arroyo subiendo por una empinada ladera llena de espinos de vuelta al carril terrizo sin un sendero claro.

Also located in the Montes de Málaga Natural Park, the Humaina is another creek that remains dry most of the year except for periods of intense rains. It's a tributary of the longer and wider Guadalmedina river that runs through the city of Malaga, although according to "northern standards", this river would rather be considered a creek. This route is no easy recreational walk despite its short distance. It starts going down a very steep firebreak passing and once in the creek, the thick vegetation around the creek makes it very hard to go forward, so you have to cross the creek back and forth always looking for a clearer way through. Then you leave the creek and start going up the slope back to the dirt road without a distinctive path and full of thorny plants.

6. Some of the best Inca rope bridges reside in the Apurimac Canyon on the road north from Cuzco. These bridges were modest suspension bridges over canyons to provide an entrance for the Inca Empire. The Incas used natural fibers found in local areas to build bridges. These fibers were interlaced together making a sturdy rope that is strengthened with wood creating a cable floor. Each side was attached to a pair of stone anchors on both sides of a gorge with huge cables of woven grass interconnecting these two pylons together. Bridges like this were appropriate for use since the Inca people did not use wheeled transport and traffic was limited to walkers and livestock. These bridges were an essential part of the road system and are a perfect example of their innovation. They were commonly used by Chasqui runners carrying messages throughout the Inca Empire.\r

5. This sky bridge extends around the chasm on Pulau Langkawi. The Island is the largest in the Langkawi archipelago, Malaysia. Its suspended at 687 meters above the sea level, giving magnificent views of the Andaman Sea and Thailands Tarutao Island to visitors. The outlook from the bridge is beyond magnificent. The curvature of the bridge provides several different viewpoints of the scenery. The Sky Bridge is amongst one of the most outstanding bridges in the world and can delivers quite a pump of adrenaline if you dare to cross. It is unique because the bridge is suspended by only one support column. The column is 95 yards and held up by 8 load-balancing cables. The bridge is a pedestrian bridge that spans 125 meters across a spectacular gorge. The bridge is 136 yards by 2 yards wide. The 1.8 m-wide Sky Bridge has two 3.6 m-wide platforms that provided a spectacular viewing area for visitors. When standing in front of the bridge you are at 687 meters above sea level.\r

4. This bridge is known as Puente de Ojuela by the local people in the city of Durango, Mexico. The city is well known as a ghost town because the resources of mineral ore has been exhausted. The only remaining and functional structure in the city is this suspension bridge. The original bridge was planned by the well-known Roebling brothers, who also designed the Brooklyn Bridge. At the time the bridge was constructed was the third longest suspension bridge in the world. Puente de Ojuela had to be recently rebuilt by the Peñoles Company; the original material had to be scrapped, and only the main arches are now displayed at a local center.\r

3. The Hussaini Hanging Bridge is known as the most treacherous bridge in the world. The Bridge is only one of several hazardous rope bridges located in Northern Pakistan. In 1978, the Karakoram Highway was finished, and the area was connected, but to this day, travel remains as hard as it was 100 years ago. Steady features of travel through this region include the wobbly cable and plank bridges which cross Northern Pakistans mountain streams and rivers. For the majority of the citizens the only way to travel o Rawalpindi was by walking across mountain passes. The Hussaini Hanging Bridge crosses the Borit Lake in the Upper Hunza. This rope bridge is both long and weakly maintained. Many planks are absent, and high winds can shake the bridge as travelers cross it. It does nothing to ease your nerves looking at the previous, broken bridge that hangs in pieces next to the new one.\r

2. The bridge crossing the wide Vitim River in Siberia, Russia is made of wooden planks and is in poor condition. It is wide enough for a skilled driver to drive across at 570 meters. The Vitim River Bridge is located in Russian Siberia. During most of the year, it stays brutally cold there making temperatures way below average for Northern Ontario and everything is usually covered in snow and ice making it extremely difficult for even skilled drivers to cross. This bridge is an icicle with little to no trion however locals drive across this bridge because it is often their only way across Vitim River.\r

UFO in Kansas mystery solved

Depending on the angle from which you spotted it, the 30 foot-wide mysterious craft appeared to be saucer-shaped. It was so large that local law enforcement had to remove roadside signage so it could pass through. But it was covered in a tightly concealed tarp, making any further examination impossible.

However, as Gizmodo points out, the craft does not technically meet the definition of UFO. For starters, even if it were an alien craft, the object was not flying. And more important, it's no longer unidentified.

Local sheriff Don Read announced that the tarp was in fact covering a flying object, but one of decidedly Earthly origins. More specifically, it was a drone aircraft manufactured by Northrop Grumman. After Read's disclosure, Northrop Grumman senior manager of public relations Brooks McKinney stepped forward to provide more details, telling Life's Little Mysteries that the "UFO" is a X-47B unmanned combat drone designed to operate from aircraft carriers. It was headed to the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.

Drone technology, or Unmanned Systems (UMS) have become so commonplace, that Northrop Grumman has a section dedicated to them on its public website. There's even a page for the X-47B itself.

"Clearly people are interested in what's going through town. It's unusual to see a shrink-wrapped aircraft, especially one with that shape," McKinney said.

"We built two for the Navy, they were being tested at Edwards Air Force Base [in California] since March. One is on its way to Maryland, and the other will remain in California."

And the reason they weren't actually flying the high-tech aircraft was even simpler. "It's difficult to fly an unmanned drone through commercial airspace," McKinney said.

Finally, the question "What's the matter with Kansas?" can be answered: A painful lack of alien spaceships.

آلبوم «هشدارهای قلب» در جنوب غرب انگستان، گلاسکو و در ایسلند ضبط شده است. اعضای گروه معتقدند که کار یک ماهه بر روی این آلبوم در در استودیوی “سیگور راس” خارج در ریکیاویک، پایتخت ایسلند تأثیر زیادی بر شکل موسیقیشان در این آلبوم داشته است .

گروه موسیقی «درای د ریور» اجرای دوباره کنسرت در بریتانیا را از سر می گیرد. این تور کنسرتهای دو هفته ای در ۱۲ شهر، تا ۱۶ اکتبرادامه خواهد داشت.

Arroyo del Quejigo

Vuelvo a Sierra Bermeja para visitar el Arroyo del Queijo y sus magníficas pozas, uno de los lugares más bonitos de estas montañas. Este arroyo es un tributario del río Almarchal, que a su vez es tributario del Genal. Este arroyo no se seca en verano, así que es naturalmente un lugar de baño para la gente de los pueblos cercanos.
La primera poza, el Charco Azul, es fácilmente accesible en coche, aunque recomendaría andar el kilómetro de distancia que hay desde la carretera hasta aquí, ya que el carril de tierra no está en muy buenas condiciones.
Aunque hay una pequeña senda junto al arroyo, yo prefiero la opción de ir saltando de roca en roca. Hay otra poza más antes de llegar al idílico Charco Encantado, con su característico tronco en mitad de la poza. La mayoría de la gente se queda aquí para bañarse en sus cristalinas aguas, y también porque hay un paso un poco complicado si quieres seguir arroyo arriba. Había planeado llegar a la próxima poza, la Poza de María Teodora, otro maravilloso lugar para bañarse, sin embargo seguí un poco más hasta llegar a la próxima poza y allí decidí parar para relajarme un rato y volver hacia atrás lentamente.
Reptiles y anfibios son abundantes en esta zona, especialmente serpientes y lagartijas. Este también es territorio de nutrias, aunque son difíciles de ver.

I go back to the Sierra Bermeja to visit the Gall Oak Creek and its magnificent pools, one of the most beautiful spots in these mountains.
This creek is a tributary of the Almarchal river, which is also a tributary of the bigger Genal. This creek doesn't dry up during the summer, so it is naturally a place to bathe for people from nearby villages. The first pool, the "Blue Pool" can be easily accessed by car, though I would better recommend to walk the 1 kilometer distance from the paved road to here, since the dirt road is not in very good conditions.
Though there is a small trail next to the creek, I prefer the rock-hopping option. There is another pool before getting to the idyllic "Enchanted Pool", with its characteristic tree trunk in the middle of the pool. Most people stay here to bathe in this crystalline waters, and also there's a small tricky step if you want to go further up the creek. I planned to get to the next, "Mary Theodora's Pool", another wonderful place to bathe, but I went on a little further until I got to one more pool and there I decided to chill out for a while and then go back slowly.
Reptiles and amphibians are plentiful in this area, especially snakes and lizards. This is also otter territory but they're very hard to spot.

saying "The nag is dead meat"
"We caint afford to carry dead weight"
The whole company standing about

And turning to dwarves perched on the enclosure gate
The boss says "Bury this lump of crow bait"

And thean the rain came
Everybody running for their wagons
Tying all the canvas flaps down
The mangy cats crowling in ther cages
The bird-girl flapping and squawking around
The whole valley reeking of wet beast
Wet beast and rotten hay
Freak and brute creation
Packed up and on their way

The three dwarves peering from their wagon's hind

Their grizzled faces like dying moons
Still dirty from the digging done

Travel Planet - Bodas Masái, Kenia (Kenya Masai's Wedding )

Africa, with its many nations and tribes, is very rich in different wedding traditions. An old African proverb says, "A man without a wife is like a vase without flowers."
The Ndebele people live in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Mother-in-law of the Ndebele bride makes her a "jocolo". The Jocolo is a five-paneled, beaded goatskin apron. During ceremonies this apron is worn by all married women.

The Shona people live in Zimbabwe and southern Mozambique. Dowry or "roora" is a regular part of their weddings. It is paid to the bride's family as a sign of respect. The bride decides when she will go to her groom. She can arrive at night with her female cousins escorting her. She arrives during the day when she wants to surprise her future husband. She then wears white from head to toe. It is believed that by doing so nobody can see her.

As soon as members of groom's family notice her they start dancing and ululating. The groom's family begins preparations for a party. It takes some time, so the bride is encouraged to keep walking through the village. People are very happy as her arrival and giving birth to babies is going to enlarge their community.

The procession ends when the mother-in-law escorts the bride to her new home. There the bride gets presents and is being pleaded to remove her veil. It is a sign for the party to begin. Such parties last all through the night.

The Yoruba people live in Nigeria and some other parts of Western Africa. Out of Africa Yoruba communities exist in Brazil, the USA, Jamaica, Haiti etc. One of the ceremonies held at the Yoruba weddings is tasting. In this ceremony the bride and groom taste for example peppercorns for bitterness, honey for happiness and dried fish for nourishment.

Egyptian weddings are often arranged. At the engagement part a groom-to-be gives his bride-to-be a money known as Mahr. This money is used to buy jewelery called Shabka and furniture. The groom gives her a ring which she wears on her right hand. Before the wedding henna tattoos are applied on bride's feet and hands.

The wedding starts with the performance of Zaffa music which involves traditional bendir drums, bagpipes, horns etc. The wedding ceremony is performed in mosque or church.

At the wedding feast the happy couple sits on Kosha chairs raised on a platform. Kofta meatballs and rose water drink called Sharpat are just two delicacies served at the wedding meal. In Egypt women pinch the bride on her wedding day. It means good luck.
Father blesses his daughter
At the wedding ceremony held by the Masai (Maasai) nation of Kenya the father of the bride blesses her by spitting on her head and breasts. Then she leaves with her husband. While walking to her new home she never looks back as she believes that she will turn to stone.
Henna tattoos being applied
Swahilli nation of Kenya bathe bride in sandalwood oils and apply henna tattoos on her limbs. Somo or a woman elder instructs the bride how to satisfy her husband. The somo sometimes hides under the bed in case some unexpected problems appear.
Semi-nomadic Samburu nation lives in Kenya too. For the Samburu people presents prepared by groom (two goatskins, two copper earrings, a milk container, a sheep) are especially important.

Polygamous marriages are common in the Wodabee nation of Niger. Marriages called „coogal“ are arranged by parents during couple's infancy. There are also marriages as result of love. Such marriages are called „teegal“.

Groom's family offers a price to the bride's family. If it is excepted the bride and groom are married. A bride lives with her husband until her pregnancy. Then she returns to her mother's home, where she will remain for the next three to four years.

With the birth of a baby the woman becomes a boofeydo or "someone who has made an error." Being a boofeydo means that she can not see or speak with her husband. The husband can not express any interest in her or the baby.

After two to three years, the woman will be able to visit her husband, but not live with him. Finally, when the woman's mother buys everything that is needed for bride's home, she and the baby return to the husband.
Between 1000 and 1500 Karo (Kara) people live on the east banks of the Omo River in south Ethiopia. To enhance the beauty of the Karo bride her abdomen is tattooed with different symbols. The Karo man can have as many wives as he can afford. Usually he has two or three wives.
