Canibalismo en la II Guerra Mundial
En guerras o épocas de hambre surgen a menudo relatos de canibalismo por hambre. Algunos ejemplos: en la Unión Soviética en los años 1930; durante el Sitio de Leningrado en 1941 en la Segunda Guerra Mundial ; durante 900 días de asedio murieron alrededor de 1.500.000 de personas y se dieron muchos casos de canibalismo entre sus habitantes.10 ; en China, durante la guerra civil y durante la gran hambruna del «Gran salto adelante». Las tropas japonesas lo pudieron practicar ocasionalmente en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Muchos informes escritos y testimonios recolectados por la Sección australiana de crímenes de guerra del Tribunal de Tokio e investigados por el fiscal William Webb (el futuro juez en jefe), indicaban que el personal japonés en muchas partes de Asia y el Pacífico cometieron actos de canibalismo contra los prisioneros de guerra aliados. En muchos casos, esto estuvo inspirado por los ataques siempre crecientes de los aliados a las líneas de suministro japonesas.

Segunda Guerra Mundial: El desembarco de Normandia
La batalla de Normandía en 1944, denominada en clave Operación Overlord, fue la invasión de Europa llevada a cabo por los Aliados en el noroeste de Francia, entonces ocupada por la Alemania nazi. El desembarco, denominado en clave Operación Neptuno1 como parte de la Operación Overlord, fue ejecutado por las fuerzas aliadas en la II Guerra Mundial. El esfuerzo aliado se concentró en desembarcar en Europa un ejército que, después de liberar Francia, llegara hasta el mismo corazón del Tercer Reich. Los preparativos de la operación Overlord se iniciaron en Gran Bretaña. En 1943 el principal escenario de operaciones aliadas estaba en Italia, así que la proyectada invasión tuvo que posponerse otro año más, a pesar de las reiteradas protestas de Stalin, que abogaba por la apertura de un «segundo frente» en Europa que comprometiese a más tropas alemanas en el oeste y aliviase la situación de la Unión Soviética.

Second Life (abreviado SL) es un metaverso lanzado el 23 de junio de 2003, desarrollado por Linden Lab, y es accesible gratuitamente en Internet. Sus usuarios, conocidos como "residentes", pueden acceder a SL mediante el uso de uno de los múltiples programas de interface llamados Viewers (visores), lo cual les permite interactuar entre ellos mediante un avatar. SL esta reservado para mayores de 18 años. Existe una alternativa para personas de entre 13 y 17 conocida como Teen Second Life. Para acceder al programa es requisito imprescindible crear una cuenta, la cual da acceso al mundo y al avatar individual.
